So on the weekend a few friends and I went to celebrate a Birthday ( Not mine).
Portello Rosso is a hidden gem with a red door located at15 Warburton lane Melbourne(03) 9602 2273 . It is a Spanish tapas and Jamón (Smoked ham) restaurant.
It looks like a refurbished warehouse. Decked out with some great pictures and a cute small kitchen were you can see the chefs preparing the meals.
They offer a banquet but we decided to get a few dishes we liked and share.
We ordered
Croquette – mushroom and blue cheese croquette with homemade cardamom relish.
Boquerones – Spanish white anchovies marinated in pickled garlic and oregano on top of honeyed goats cheese, salsa verde and bread
Pan catalan – grilled bread rubbed with roast tomato & spices served with confit garlic
Mejillones a la pancha– Mussels cooked with chilli garlic and special tomato sauce (Loved this one)
Pulpo a la gallega – Marinated octopus Galician style with black garlic
Paella de Carne- Selection of Spanish meats, chorizo, botifarra, morcilla, vegetables and herbs
Paella mixta – A classic seafood and meat selection with seasonal vegetables and herbs
I was a bit disapointed with the Paella. It didn’t have much flavor nor spice. But everything else was great.
We drank ½ a liter of white and ½ a liter of red sangeria I liked the wite more, it was really refreshing.
Over all is was a great night and we all had a ball.
For Dessert we ended up going to Maha ( it wasn’t me who suggested it LOL ). We had some great dessert and heaps of cocktails.
We rolled home by the end of the night.
